SCOPE Basel 2013 opened its doors to VIPs on Monday with an extended two-day vernissage, celebrating its new location at 40 Uferstrasse in Klybeckquai. Visitors were welcomed by SCOPE’s featured projects by Venice Biennale artists and a dynamic selection of 85 Exhibitors and 20 Breeder Program galleries.

Sales were brisk in SCOPE’s opening days, as reported by numerous galleries: Eli Klein placed nearly $80,000 of works by Liu Bolin, while Hans Alf reported 3 sculptures by Maria Rubinke having sold to the Swiss Re Collection, for 8-10,000EUR each. The Flat – Massimo Carasi’s group of sculptures by Michael Johansson were placed for 30,000EUR.

Standing Pine’s perennial favorite, Kenji Sugiyami, celebrated over 20,000EUR while Galerie Mark Hachem reported 30,000EUR of Hayat’s work placed in private collections. Robert Fontaine Gallery sold out their works from artist Alexander Robinson, and placed large works by Nick Gentry and Troy Abbott for nearly $40,000 in sales. Galerie Swanstrom placed a large work by Tom Deininger in a private collection, while Thinkspace sold several paintings by Audrey Kawasaki for $48,000.

Aureus Contemporary placed a 9000EUR Claire Shegog installation to a well-known collector from Zurich, along with two Karim Hamid paintings to a Turkish Collector for 22,000EUR and 3 sculptures by Peter Cole to a Basel collector for 9000EUR. Strong sales were also reported by SCOPE newcomer L’Inlassable Galerie, as well as Victori Contemporary, Galerie Charlot, Andenken Gallery, Galerie Charlot, Oltre Dimore, ARTRA and Galleria Ghetta.

Drawn by the new location and intriguing Exhibitor list, the Press have warmly praised SCOPE Basel 2013, with articles appearing in Kunst Magazin, Neue Zuricher Zeitung, Basler Zeitung, and the cover of BLOUIN ARTINFO.COM’s daily newspaper.

Easily accessible by Trams 8 & 14, SCOPE Basel will also maintain a complimentary shuttle service in-between the fair and Art Basel and Liste.

Additionally, visitors may reach the fair by a scenic walking route along the Rhine, follow the SCOPE banners to Uferstrasse 40!
